I'm sure most of you have heard about the devastating flooding that occured last Friday morning in SW Arkansas. Well, this happens to be where I grew up. The camp site that has been on the National and Local news is only about 20 minutes from my hometown of Glenwood. I have family that still live there and these photos were taken by them.
Caddo River-view from my old high school (which no longer exists)
I have floated this river many, many times. We used to skip school to float this river. The last few times I have been to Glenwood, the river has been SO low. Friday morning it rose from 3ft-23ft in a matter of a couple of hours!
People were camping along the river in this area at the time. As far as I know these people made it out.
Cattlemens Livestock (aka "the Sale Barn")
The Narrows
The river is back quite a ways from the Cemetery normally. I used to go to the Narrows with my cousins and swim during the summer.
I have had a heavy heart all weekend for the people in my hometown and the surrounding area. I cannot imagine the devastation that these families are feeling right now. The death toll currently stands at 19 and there is one person still missing. A large number of the deaths were small children. To think that they were having a little camping getaway with family and friends and something like this happened is just tragic.
Please pray for the families that are going through this and count your blessings everyday as you never know how long we have with family.
